Pointing your Hover domain
Updated October 25, 2026
This guide is for domains registered at Hover. Read Pointing your domain first if you want the big picture.
Hover has its own instructions too: Managing DNS Records at Hover and Set Up Domain Forwarding at Hover.
We will send you the exact values to use. The usual target is sites.guardhouse.host.
Hover says you can only manage DNS records at Hover if your domain uses Hover’s nameservers (ns1.hover.com and ns2.hover.com). If it does not, change DNS with the company that does manage it.
Part 1: Add the www record
- Sign in to the Hover control panel. Use your two-factor method.
- From your domain’s Overview page, open the DNS section.
- Click Add a record.
- Choose CNAME as the type.
- For the hostname, enter
www. - For the target name, enter
sites.guardhouse.host. - Save the record.
Part 2: The plain address
Hover says it cannot support a CNAME on the root domain (@). So the plain address needs a different approach.
Hover offers domain forwarding. Hover’s help page says its forwarding:
- uses a temporary (302) redirect, not a permanent one
- needs two A records pointing to Hover’s forwarding address
- does not support HTTPS. It works for
http://yourbusiness.combut nothttps://yourbusiness.com.
Because of this, Hover’s forwarding is not a good fit for us. Visitors who type https://yourbusiness.com would not be forwarded. Email us before you set it up. We will tell you the best option for your domain.
Extra verification records
If we ask for them, add them the same way as Part 1, choosing TXT as the type.
