Pointing your GoDaddy domain

Updated October 25, 2026

This guide is for domains registered at GoDaddy. Read Pointing your domain first if you want the big picture.

GoDaddy has its own instructions too: Add a CNAME record and Forward my GoDaddy domain. We follow them below.

We will send you the exact values to use. Where you see sites.guardhouse.host below, that is the usual value. We will confirm it in your email.

Part 1: Add the www record

  1. Sign in to your GoDaddy Domain Portfolio.
  2. Select your domain to open its Domain Settings page.
  3. Select DNS to see your DNS records.
  4. Select Add New Record, then choose CNAME from the Type menu.
  5. In Name, enter www.
  6. In Value, enter sites.guardhouse.host.
  7. Leave TTL at its default (GoDaddy’s default is 1 hour).
  8. Select Save.

GoDaddy says domains with Domain Protection need extra identity verification when you save.

If you already have a www record, edit it instead of adding a second one. Tell us first what it was set to, so we can put it back if needed.

Part 2: Forward the plain address

This sends yourbusiness.com to https://www.yourbusiness.com.

  1. In your domain’s settings, go to the DNS tab, then choose Forwarding.
  2. Select Add Forwarding and pick the root domain.
  3. Choose https:// for the destination, and enter www.yourbusiness.com (use your own domain).
  4. Choose Permanent (301) as the forwarding type.
  5. Save your settings.

GoDaddy says forwarding over HTTPS is applied automatically.

Extra verification records

If we ask for them, add them the same way as Part 1, but choose TXT as the type and paste the name and value we send you.

How long it takes

GoDaddy says most DNS changes take effect within an hour but can take up to 48 hours.
