Pointing your Cloudflare domain

Updated October 25, 2026

This guide is for domains whose DNS is managed at Cloudflare. Read Pointing your domain first if you want the big picture.

Cloudflare has its own instructions too: Create DNS records.

We will send you the exact values to use. The usual target is sites.guardhouse.host.

Part 1: Add the www record

  1. In the Cloudflare dashboard, go to the DNS Records page for your domain.
  2. Select Add record.
  3. Choose CNAME as the type.
  4. In Name, enter www.
  5. In Target, enter sites.guardhouse.host.
  6. Set the proxy status as we tell you in our email.
  7. Select Save.

Cloudflare’s page covers the dashboard steps above. It describes TTL as how long each record is valid.

Part 2: The plain address

Cloudflare lets you use a CNAME at the plain address (the “root”). It calls this CNAME flattening. Cloudflare’s docs say it returns the final IP address instead of a CNAME record, so it works at the root. Read CNAME flattening for details.

There are two ways to handle the plain address. We will tell you which one to use:

  • A redirect from yourbusiness.com to https://www.yourbusiness.com.
  • A flattened CNAME at the root.

Extra verification records

If we ask for them, add them as TXT records on the same DNS Records page, using the name and value we send.
